NOV 2006: Success at MAXXIS British Outdoor Supercross Championship

MAXXIS British Outdoor Supercross

When the British Outdoor Supercross Championship, sanctioned by the ACU, was announced there was a good deal of discussion within the off road industry as to the viability of an outdoor series in the late autumn, early winter. But promoters Keith and Jonathan Chapman put their money where their mouth is and built a 500 metre supercross track in the middle of their speedway stadium. At precisely 7pm on Saturday 25th November the gate dropped for the first race at the Norfolk Arena, King’s Lynn to herald round one of the Maxxis British Outdoor Youth Supercross Championship.

The second half of the programme saw the big wheel machines take centre stage in front of the good size crowd in the covered grandstands. But while they were enjoying their coffee or beer the big wheel 85cc riders were engaged in some terrific race action. George Baldwin, who took an early race one tumble from his KTM before riding through the field for third, came within an ace of the overall victory after another charge through the pack in race two for a well deserved win. It was Robbie Joe Waller though, who kept his head and added to his first race victory with a secure second to stand on top of the Norfolk Arena podium. Mark Richards made it another all KTM affair with a pair of top three finishes that sees him looking forward to a possible championship title in two weeks time as just two points separate him from pace setter Waller.
